Cheryll's 1st Week In Pre-School

We all go through this phase in life. For Cheryll, she started her year 4 pre-school on 2 February 2009. As parents, we are all excited for her. In fact, we may be more excited than her. For this special day, both me and Florence took a day's leave to accompany her. Hopefully, our presence there will encourage her as well as to help her settle down faster.

After getting her all dressed up, we set off to her pre-school which is located approximately 500 metres away. Upon reaching the school, she was immediately dumbfounded by the presence of so many other children. She must be thinking "Just what is this place?" Always reserved, she never took the initiative to explore the place or engage play with other students. She just stuck around us, reluctant to venture far.

When classes finally started, she did seem to enjoy the lessons taught. There were computer lesson, mandarin lesson, phonics lesson and several others taught on that day. Variety is important in order to keep their attention. All in all, I must say the day was positive and she really did enjoyed herself. Of course there were instances of crying whenever she could not cope with things all too alien to her. But that's normal.

Eventually over the course of the week, we started leaving after assembly time. She would wail and wail but left with no choice, we as parents have to leave her. Hopefully, she will learn independence and to trust the teachers. In time, things will work out. Some child adapt better than others but all will adapt ultimately.

Let this be a stepping stone to more great things to come for her. We love her and only want the best for her.
